Nurse Meets Father First Time as Patient

September 3, 2010

I came across this article and thought it would be a great article to share heading into the Labor Day weekend, where many of us will be relaxing with family.

While working the usual late shift, Wanda Rodriguez, a Head Nurse in Bronx, New York over heard a Doctor mention the name of a new admission. She paused for a second and realized it was the name of her father, whom she had never met. She went into his room, and after making sure he was comfortable, inquired about his family. He told Rodriguez that he had two daughters, Gina and Wanda, but that they were both grown. After hearing this, Rodriguez could not believe her ears, and abruptly left the room, not sure how to react.

After gaining her composure, she went back into her Father’s room, and told him that she was Wanda, his daughter. To her surprise, he replied, “I know you’re my daughter”.  Rodriguez believes that when they both looked at each other, they instantly knew they were father and daughter.

Since their meeting in the hospital, Wanda has introduced her father to her children, and her mother has also been re-connected with him.

Does anyone have a similar story? Has this or something like it ever occurred in the facility you work in?
